This spring, the Prescott-Russell Arts Council announced the new CAPRAC Student Fund Bursaries with the objective of supporting the region’s young artists and arts & culture students in these challenging pandemic times. The bursaries are awarded to graduating students who currently live and/or attend school in the United Counties of Prescott & Russell and, will be attending a post-secondary program that reflects Art, Culture, or Heritage. Bursary winners are also given the opportunity to participate in the CAPRAC board activities and strategic planning for the organization. The CAPRAC Board of Directors would like to thank all the students who submitted their applications. The testimonies prove that the next generation of artists is strong and vibrant in the Prescott-Russell region.

We are pleased to announce this year’s student bursary recipients, Maxime L’Écuyer (É.S.P. Le Sommet) and Maxime Legault (É.S.C. L’Escale), who are both pursuing post-secondary studies in Visual Arts at the University of Ottawa this fall.

150 Reasons to Be Canadian– Call to Artists

In 2017, Canada will celebrate the 150th anniversary of its confederation. 2017 will be a special year for all Canadians as the festivities will spread across Canada, from ocean to ocean. Conseil des arts Prescott Russell Arts Council (CAPRAC), in partnership with the Prescott and Russel Economic Development and Tourism (PRETD) and Tourism Prescott Russell (TPRT), are very happy to be taking part in this great Canadian adventure, and as such, would like to invite all artists of the Prescott and Russell region to participate in a major project created for this once-ina-lifetime celebration.

The project, whose chosen theme is “150 Reasons to Be Canadian,” invites all artists, artisans, and creators of all types of the Prescott and Russell, Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry as well as Ottawa and its suburbs to take part in a region-wide exhibition which will celebrate Canada’s 150th Confederation. This idea was initiated by artist Rita Iriarte, who will be presenting a monumental piece on this theme during this event and the exhibition.

Arteast Seeks Administrative Assistant

Arteast is taking steps to hire its first employee—a part-time Administrative Assistant. In addition to needing volunteers to run our exhibitions and programs, Arteast needs an employee to help the Treasurer and some of the Coordinators with certain tasks. Thanks to an operating grant for 2016 from the City of Ottawa, Arteast is now in a position to hire someone. I must emphasize, however, that Arteast will continue to need the help of volunteers in all areas of activity. So please don't hesitate to step forward to help.

The Administrative Assistant position will, of course, be open to all members of Arteast. However, it will also be open to non-members and steps are being taken to advertise this opportunity at large. So, if any of you are interested in becoming Arteast's first employee, we welcome your application. Details are in the job posting below. The deadline is 15 September 2016.
